FAQs
We have a simple but flexible cost structure to help agents minimize expenses and maximize income. Our "Plans" page describes our latest offerings. To see the exact amount you will pay to join General Referral, select a plan and begin the sign up process. You will see the amount due on step four of the process.
There are no hidden fees. The only other costs you will incur are fees charged by your state licensing body. Typically, the state charges a one time fee when you move your license, plus a regular renewal fee. If your state requires continuing education (New Jersey does NOT), you will also incur those costs. We normally collect the state fees from you and pay the state on your behalf.
In most cases, you are subject to the same rules as every other licensed agent.
Due to the “Referral Agent” license type in New Jersey, there are special limitations imposed.
Referral agents come from varied and unique backgrounds, but there are two things they all have in common: a desire to earn extra money doing something they love while cutting the cost of holding a real estate license!
We see everyone from industry veterans winding down their career to newly minted real estate agents choosing to become referral agents. It’s also a great option for anyone looking to keep one foot in the business while pursuing another career or interests. If your other pursuits involve real estate in any way, becoming a referral agent would be a very clever way to increase your income.
Here is a list of specific benefits to becoming a real estate referral agent:
-
No board association dues or MLS fees
-
No Supra Key charges
-
No E&O insurance required
-
No Sales Transaction Fees
-
No Monthly Desk or Technology Fees
-
No minimum production requirements
-
No continuing education requirements in New Jersey

Click on "Submit a Referral" after checking out our sample referral agreement to get a feel for the information you will need.
-
Have you selected a receiving agent? Select Yes or No.
-
If no, review this information on finding a referral partner. General Referral is not currently handling selecting the receiving agent and negotiating a referral fee. N.B. There is a cap on your referral fee of 20% for referrals place by GR.
-
If yes, be sure to fill in the name and contact information for both the receiving agent and the receiving manager. If the receiving agent and the receiving manager are the same person, you may leave only the receiving agent field blank.

Additional Notes/Best Practices
-
Learn how referral fees work.
-
Once the referral agreement is signed by all parties, you will automatically receive a fully executed copy by email. Check in with the receiving agent and manager the next business day after you submit the referral to make sure they have received the signature request.
-
If you do not receive a fully executed agreement in a reasonable amount of time, we suggest that you reach out to the receiving agent to help facilitate the process.
-
Once you complete your first referral, we will invite you to create an account with our payroll provider.
-
if you would like to modify a referral agreement you have already sent, please see this support article.
-
If your referral does not fit neatly into the above structure please reach out to us for assistance.
